Karunanidhi defends support withdrawal but says Centre hasn't betrayed DMK

DMK chief M Karunanidhi is learnt to have justified party’s decision to pullout of the UPA government on long standing Sri Lankan Tamils issue. He was quick to refute charges of betrayal. He was of the opinion that in the backdrop of recent developments it seems the party has taken a right decision. He blatantly refused the buy charges leveled by UPA.

He was also apprehensive about India’s stand at the UNHRS, he remarked that people pinned hopes on US resolution because they believed it might work miracles but it failed to bring the needed respite. Everyone was anticipating that US resolution would bring the atrocities on Tamils in the spotlight but it rather proved to be futile attempt.

When he was asked whether the party would support any efforts that results in taking in consideration his recommendations for a parliamentary resolutions, he expressed his unwillingness.

Karunanidhi was of the opinion the US resolution on Tamils issues remains a non starter since none of the recommendations were taken into consideration. He was particularly unhappy about the way the things have been handled. He took particular note of India’s representative’s statement that India would support the island nation efforts on rehabilitation.
